Job Description

The Assistant Cook is responsible for supporting kitchen staff in daily food preparation and kitchen operations. The role includes assisting with cooking, washing and cutting fruits, packaging food and fruit products, cleaning kitchen equipment and work areas, and ensuring the kitchen remains clean and organized while following basic food hygiene standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in preparing and cooking meals according to instructions.

  • Wash, peel, and chop vegetables, fruits, and other ingredients.

  • Help in maintaining cleanliness of the kitchen and cooking equipment.

  • Ensure proper food hygiene and safety standards are followed.

  • Assist in portioning and packaging food when required.

  • Support the head cook in meal preparation and service.

  • Organize and store food items properly to avoid spoilage.

  • Monitor basic kitchen stock and report shortages.

  • Clean utensils, work surfaces, and kitchen area after use.

  • Perform any other kitchen duties assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements & Qualifications

Requirements:

  1. Ability to support kitchen staff with daily tasks.

  2. Ability to cook and prepare simple meals.

  3. Ability to wash, peel, and cut fruits.

  4. Ability to package food and fruits neatly.

  5. Hardworking and willing to learn.

  6. Able to work well in a team.

  7. Honest, responsible, and punctual.

  8. Able to maintain cleanliness in the kitchen and work area.

Qualifications

  1. Certificate of Secondary Education (Form IV) or above.

  2. Previous experience in a kitchen is an added advantage.

  3. Basic knowledge of food preparation and hygiene.
